I love subtitles.... Hey "Almost"

Apocalypto is a nice change to the normal films that have been coming out for the last 15 months. We use to have several films like Dances With Wolves or Tears of the Sun that show what damage can be done to cultures.

Mel Gibson co-wrote and directed this epic about Indians in the Mayan dynasty being captured and sacrificed by an evil ruler. This film takes you from proud natives living an everyday life to being captured and being sold as slaves or even worse.....having their heads chopped off and their hearts removed from their bodies while they are still alive.

The acting is fabulous in this film......The only problem I had with the film is that you feel so much anger and sorrow for the victims that you wont them to rebel and try to fight and it takes forever for anything like that to happen.

The entire film is spoken in the native tongue so you have to read subtitles but I found that the film was so good that I did not even notice having to read them about 20 minutes into the film.

The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was 2 things......One I have seen braveheart and even The Patriot (Mel Gibson's not Steven Segal's version) about 20 times each. Braveheart is really violent and bloody and even The Patriot holds nothing back. I thought some of the scenes in this were really bloody and violent but on some scenes it seemed as if they were holding back maybe to appease the MPAA Gods......Whatever the reason may be I wish they would have made it with more gore as the violence that was happening should not have been candy coated.

Check it out, its worth a rental fee!

This is a f*cking awsome film, there was quite enough bloody bit for me I think anymore gore might have turned a few people off.

A lot of people felt after Passion, Gibson crossed a line in terms of violence, Maybe this was his way of going, "I ain't THAT bad." Either way, Riggs is a great director.
