An OK Thriller with a Very Good Twisted Ending

The Return Movie Review

Director: Asif Kapadia

Actors: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Peter O'Brien, and Sam Shepard

Rated PG-13: For Violence, Terror, and Disturbing Images

Joanna (Sarah Michelle Gellar) has made a career for herself as sales rep for a trucking company. But her private life has been difficult; estranged from her father (Sam Shepard), stalked by an obsessed ex (Adam Scott) and with few friends, Joanna fears she is losing her mind. She keeps seeing visions of the brutal murder of a stranger by a man who appears to be making Joanna his next target.

The Return is probably one of the most boring films I've ever seen but with one of the best endings I've ever seen. The Return had good Acting, ok Directing, ok Special Effects, and ok Writing. In the films opening sequence you get introduced to a little scared Joanna Mills who hides under a cotton candy stand from a mysterious man and from that moment on I got this felling that this film was going to be a high octane horror film, which I also got that feeling from the trailer, but boy was I wrong. Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as Joanna Mills a workaholic who lives in and out of motels along with her dirty apartment, and the reason for that is because she believes if she runs from place to place something, she doesn't know what, from her past won't come back for her. She also has nightmares and visions about something; she doesn't know what they mean exactly. She then arrives in a small town in Texas where she hopes to get to the bottom of her nightmares and visions and there in this small town holds a secret and the answer to all of Joanna's questions. The film's script is pretty lame if you ask me, some very crappie dialogue, non scary moments, no generally creepy moments, no nothing just a bland mystery film but with a good ending. I believe the films director had a vision of a movie that nobody has seen before and I believe he created something that nobody has seen before or at least I haven't seen before, and it just didn't come out of his eye the way he wanted it to. The ending of the film was the best part next to Sarah Michelle Gellar; it was just such a good twist I actually felt like applauding the director for once, it definitely was something I'd never seen before in any other movie.

Overall Horror Fans Probably Will Be Disappointed but Fans of Sarah Michelle Gellar Might Enjoy and Fans of Good Twisted Endings Might Enjoy This Film

P.S. !!!!!!!INCLUDES SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!
A lot of people tell me they don't understand the poster, COME ON it's so easy!!! Sarah Michelle Gellar has another girl in her body with her; the girl who died in the ending was reincarnated in her body so the hand that is on the eye is trying to get out of her body because eyes are considered the windows to the soul. I personally like Sarah Michelle even though she takes crap for not having a huge acting range.

I agree with your review. I have a question though..ok so the guy in the autobody shop/gas station, the one she buys the snacks from, he is the guy that chases her into the barn and tries to kill her right - BUT the guy in the picture hanging in the autobody shop, the one she recognized - he's the guy that killed the other girl years ago. So where is HE? I was thinking maybe those two guys are the same person, but they look nothing thing alike. But when she's in the barn with him, she notices the same scar on his ear from where the other girl pulled out the other guys earring. Help!
