Movie Review by Zombie Boy
August 15th, 2007

"You've got your mother's hands."

I didn't care much for this film when I first saw it, but in the intervening time I had a chance to watch all the wonderful shorts and featurettes on the Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit disc, which gave me a better appreciation for the fellows at Aardman.

The story is kind of same-old, same-old, ho-hum stuff...it is the animation and voice talent that bring it to life (though this film seems to utilize CGI a lot more than other Aardman fare). Keep a look out right at the beginning for Gromit's cameo, and when Roddy is taking outfits out of his closet, one of them is a Wallace get-up.

There are also a lot of nice references for adults, especially the Batman joke, and the book on animation sitting on Rodney's shelf. Also, I was particularly pleased with how unabashedly British the movie was. They didn't Americanize themselves in an effort to better sell their film, and I appreciate that. In fact, they took several rather stinging shots against Americans...and I appreciated that, too :)

My favorite voice actor in this film is by far Bill Nighy as Spike. Quite a casting coup, if you ask me.
