Movie Review by Jenny
February 13th, 2007

"How to Eat Fried Worms" is the perfect movie for little boys. It's disgusting, gross, and therefore cool in the eyes of a little boy. One thing I really liked about it was that it dealt with situations that are really important to kids, and it spoke directly to them. The main character, Billy, has just moved to a new town and has a new school. He has trouble fitting in, and makes a bet with the bullies that he can eat 10 worms by Saturday. The movie is based on one of my favorite books from elementary school.

I really enjoyed watching this movie with my son. We "Ewwwwww!!!"-ed our way through the worm eating scenes, laughing the entire time. The parents, played by Tom Cavanaugh and Kimberly Williams, were also fun for me to watch. I remember watching these kinds of movies when I was a kid and thinking that the parents looked old. Now I'm in the parents shoes, and they don't look so old to me anymore... Ah well.

"How To Eat Fried Worms" didn't do so well in the theaters, and for some reason, Ebert gave this one of his worst reviews from last year. He must have not watched it with a 6 year old like I did, or he would have really enjoyed it. As far as kiddie movies go, this is one of my favorites from the past year. Recommended.

I loved the book as a kid but I haven't gotten around to watching the movie. I seriously watch between 7-10 movies a week between DVDs and theater and yet I still can't make time for certain flicks. I might just get my Midget the book. Ha!
