Movie Review by David
December 3rd, 2006

One of the best films Ive seen

This movie has got to be one of the funniest movies made this year. Whoever cast this movie should get an award cuz everyone in it was absolutely amazing. Especially the lil girl Olive, this is the first movie ive seen her in but she prolly gave the best performance out of them all, she was funny, she was charming, she was vulnerable, the movie would of been nothing if it werent for her.

And all the other characters were great too...i found them to be very interesting to watch. There was not one boring moment throughout the entire film. Everytime i see Steve Carell in something new he impresses me. I dont think Ive seen him in a bad film yet (with the exception of Bewitched). But other than that he's great to watch. I thought the brother, Dwayne played by Paul Dano was another great character too. He wasnt just some stereo-typical angst ridden teen, he gave his character such depth, such complexity,
his character really took the film in his own direction, it was very unexpected but when it happened it was very refreshing to see.

Alan Arkin as the grandpa, GREAT!! Could'nt of played that character any better, watching him was like watching a car accident, its intense, its scary, its heartpounding. That scene with him and Olive in the hotel room, where she reaches out to him almost had me in tears it was so good.

I see this family interact with each other and at times i wanna strangle them, mostly the dad, but other times i found myself wishing that they were my family, especially in the end. And i think thats what this film succeeded in doing, it engaged me. The characters made me care about them, even the ones i hated. I was literally engaged from start to finish. Id recommend this movie to anyone.
