Movie Review by Zara

I can diffuse a bomb whilst taking it in the butt

What a fantastically, wonderful, charming little film about making a porn movie. Betcha you never would have thought a sentence like that could get written.

This movie was filmed a few years back with its theatrical release date shoved back so many times that they finally just released it on DVD. Which is fitting, considering the content within the film talking about how when you're making a movie, everything gets screwed up. (The film is listed under the title THE MOGULS if you go looking for it on IMDb.com)

Jeff Bridges never ceases to amaze me in the range that he can emote while basically using the same tone of voice or glazed over stare. While he'll always be Jeff Bridges, he does always manage to get you to understand the character that he's playing, no matter how diverse the personality.

And the movie is PACKED full of amazing actors, from the young Patrick Fugit (best remembered in ALMOST FAMOUS) to good ol' Joey Pants, to Ted Danson (doing what I truly believe in some of the best work that I've ever seen him do - if ever there was an actor who improved with age, it's him) to Glenne Headly, the sexiest older red head who always has sex appeal. Judy Greer, Lauren Graham, Eileen Brennen, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Valerie Perrine are all those women that you've loved in character roles.

And don't even get me started on William Fichtner, a guy who's been in everything from great shows like "Grace Under Fire" to bombs like ARMAGEDDON (OK, so that wasn't a bomb, but I hate the movie). Here's a guy who will never have leading man looks, is too short and too average looking to really be the quirky guy but is one of the strongest and most consistent actors that I have seen in years. The fact that you can look at him, snap your fingers and say, "Oh... Oh... That's that guy from... what was that??...." is proof that he embeds himself into your memory with the subtlety of his talent and yet I would wager a large bet that if you could never remember his name if/when you were ever asked.

This is a movie containing a sweetness that you don't expect when you hear that it's about a small town of people getting together to make a porn film, especially when one of the characters is simply named "Some Idiot" (referred to as "Some" by everyone in town).

But it's smart, it catches you off guard and it has some of the best dialogue that I've heard in quite some time. What a shame that this one slipped through the radar.
