Movie Review by Zara

Whoa

I was prepared to dislike this movie. A big blockbuster that I had no inclination to go see in the theater even when my sister was working at one and could get me in for free. From the look of the posters I had predetermined a few things. One, that Brandon Routh was supposed to look like Christopher Reeve, never would and instead would turn off movie goers who still loved the departed actor. Two, that Kate Bosworth was ugly enough as a too-skinny blonde and had only been made uglier with the mousy brown hair. And three, that I was going to need to kick Parker Posey's ass for taking such a stupid role.

Well, Parker pulled it off in her own fashion (although Lesley Ann Warren is just the master at playing the loveable ditz) and while Kevin Spacey seems to be continuing his downward spiral into a bunch of nothingness (dammit, this is why we don't give actors two Oscars - it completely throws off their game) James Marsden kicked it up a notch and pulled off the nice guy in a way that surprised me.

Sure, Routh wasn't anything impressive. I was surprised that his voice was as deep as it was because despite his height he still looked like a pu**y to me. Kate Bosworth gets most of the good lines (ok, so I knock her appearance but she's really not a bad actress) and they threw in the not-so-surprising twist that happened to go over well with my Midget.

I'm normally not a big supporter of blockbusters (gee, have you picked up on that by now?) but this one, while it has its slow moments, is actually a rather entertaining flick. It could just be because I still have a soft spot in my heart for the story about the Man of Steel (hell, I was a lilttle Midget myself when I first fell in love with Christopher Reeve) but all in all, it's a good movie. My main complaint above all of this is that it was too long. It would have been better with about 20 minutes shaved off of its time frame.
