When a private laboratory supported by the government finds the cure for the mutants, using the DNA of a powerful boy, the mutants have the option of giving up their powers and become human, but their society split. Magneto opposes and decides to join a force to fight against the government and kill the mutant boy. Meanwhile, Jean Grey resurrects uncontrolled by Xavier and with the personality of the powerful Dark Phoenix. She destroys Cyclops and Professor Charles Xavier, and allies to the evil forces of Magneto, making them almost invincible.
X-Men The Last Stand is supposedly the final film in the epic X-Men film series, all directed by Brett Ratner. Since I have finally seen all three of these movies now, I have to say that everyone was great, including this one. Though many believe that The Last Stand is the weakest in the series and that it lacks much of what the other two films had, I thought it was a great third and final installment into the franchise. In X-Men, we were mainly introduced to our characters and got some feeling for who they were and why they were all here. In X2, we got major character development and it worked out everything greatly and prepared us for this film. In The Last Stand, the action is here and it ends with a bang. Many critics disrespected the movie because of more action and less character, but I think it ends the series well, if it is the end.
Out of all three movies, I have to say that X2 featured the best acting skills. The Last Stand continues those great performances but the skills were not seen as much because of the seriously shortened screen time the film features. With the second movie featuring a running time of over 2 hours, this film only lasts just over an hour and a half. There was actually a critic stupid enough to say that the X-Men series would be better with less Wolverine, I guess he doesnt know that X-Men completely sorrounds Wolverine. Well Wolverine wouldnt be who he is without the help of High Jackman, who creates the character perfectly. I do have to say that I never read the comics or anything, but I did look up the history of him and the comics and it does say that the story and everything sorrounded Wolverine because of his character and such. Well Hugh Jackman gets all of the sarcasm and humor, mixed with more emotion here in the third movie.
Just when we thought that Famke Janssen was done acting as Jean Gray in the series, she makes a triumphant return. As both Cyclops and Wolverine are impacted during and after her death, things get even more emotional when we find out that she has two sides to her character. She can be Jean Gray, a kind person who all the mutants know and love, then, she shifts to greed and violence as Phoenix. Her eyes change color and everything and then she gets mean quick. We get a few more appearances as more mutants which we loved in the comics make an appearance here. Kelsey Grammar plays as Beast, one of the more intelligent and kinder of the mutant group. Well Beast is big and blue, and is a monkey of sorts. Another mutant making an appearance is Vinnie Jones as The Juggernaut, a character who many die hard X-Men fans have been waiting to see star in a live action movie.
Brett Ratner does a lot better job with getting deeper into and making more changes when it comes to the world of X-Men. Of three movies, we get a mini appearance from the Danger Room, which is a little training room kind of like situation. Our character entrances take place in the Danger Room. We also finally get those appearances by those few chosen new mutants and such. There is a lot more action and bigger effects in The Last Stand. It seems as if it is constantly going on and the excellent effects work around it with great precision. We get more disaster and the final fight scene is some what confusing, but I got over it. There are a few little things like some editing mistakes which aggravated me but I thought it was all good and dandy.
X-Men The Last Stand is a great movie with non stop action. This movie really needs more respect.
