Movie Review by Seth
June 28th, 2006

Infuriatingly Educational

I've seen a fair amount of the America-at-war documentaries (Fahrenheit 9/11, Gunner Palace, Fog of War) and have thought all of them to be extremely important for their American audiences. I still feel that way.

However, this one leads them all.

It breaks down the momentum that has built up for decades that now directs our foreign policy. It is informative, it is infuriating, and it is extremely well shot and produced. It makes me want to learn more about the foresight of Dwight Eisenhower, and more importantly it makes me want to figure out how I can make this country be a better one.

As an Iraqi in the film said: "America will lose because her behavior is not the behavior of a great nation."

Watch this film and let's figure out how we can make this a great nation.

Very nice review Seth. I find it funny that the movie doesn't really lead to an explicit "what do we do?", but that you and I both left the movie wondering that.

I agree with you completely with this one. Sadly, though, when the film ended I was unlike you wondering how we can fix this once great nation, but instead wondering how much more time America has at being 'number one in the world.' This is really a sad film that makes you yearn for simpler times and for what America once was. I honestly just finished the film and all I can feel is sorrow for our future. - SCF

Educational? Please.Try reading history books instead of watching such blatantly ignorant "Hollywood documentaries"! These movies are made just to make money for Hollywood! It always amazes me that such obvious "hype" can be believed by so many! America not a great nation? Then please explain why so many Iraqi and Afghan people "choose" to move and live here? Not to mention people from so many other countries. Just to infiltrate and kill us? It is cowardice to try to justify killing innocent civilians in the name of religion - we should not belittle our country, we should not try to understand their feelings about us. We must protect ourselves from such radical extremism in all cases and stop believing propaganda that WE are the bad guys!!

A few things:

1) Just because somebody is wrong (terrorists blowing up the WTC) doesn't make the person they are attacking always right.

2) I read plenty of history books, thank you.

3) People leave many countries (including the U.S.) to go live lots of other places (including places like Mexico). That does not mean any place someone moves is a great nation.

4) If you want to talk about killing innocent civilians, please consider that the U.S. killed 200,000 Japanese with atomic bombs, and more recently has killed 40,000 Iraqi civilians during the current war.
