Movie Review by Zara
June 18th, 2009

I remember being absolutely riveted by this movie and the excellent performance that Felicity Huffman did pulling off a believable pre-op man. The story between the man who used to be back in the college, the one time only shot at trying to figure out if there was a possibility that a straight life could be lived if only with the right woman, all of that is told in bits and pieces as the son that transpired from that union comes bursting into his life right before he is about to become a she.

And to muck things up even worse, the kid is completely screwed up. Willing to work as a male prostitute in order to make money and make his way through life after his mother has died, trying to find the father that never was and now never will be is just as heart wrenching as watching Huffman make you believe that she is a man who is a woman trapped in a man's body.

Mixed in with the seriousness of the story are the parts of life where you have to laugh to keep from crying. Granted, most people wouldn't deal with their spawn ending up in gay porn for a living, but the most touching part is seeing a man finally turn into the female butterfly and realize that in life, no matter the circumstances, there should be no judgment. It's a brilliant, if hard to live by lesson of life.
