Am I the only one who isn't in love with this movie? Listen, the acting's great. Don Cheadle, Mat Dillon and Terrence Howard all are fantastic, but that's not enough to make a movie good. I have one phrase for this flick, "Subtle as a jackhammer." Racism can be dealt with much better skill than just throwing it on the screen. And there is no character development, just incidents. However, I do comend the one scene where Ludacris criticizes rap music. But that's about it. I got bored watching situations unfold and no progression in a plot. People died, were enraged, violated and more, but everything was stale. They were puppets in this movie. Not people.

I'm with you. A well done movie, but nothing to walk away with that wasn't obvious already. I heard a great quote about this movie that went something like "apparently racism is everywhere, but it's ok because your intentions don't matter due to the fact that random chance has a larger affect on life." Or something like that.
I actually had the same complaint about BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. A series of events is not an emotinal storyline. Despite creating circumstances involving important issues, you actually have to develop reasons why we should care. |
