Movie Review by lanie
April 17th, 2005

Dear Frankie... Is a very uplifting story about a deaf boy who writes letters to his father, but in actuality the child's mother created a fairy tale father for her son.. a man who corresponds from a ship in letters that begin "Dear Frankie. This movie touches on a single-parent's struggle to survive, a child's desire for his missing parent, and a stranger's unconditional love. A story about life. A mother's deep intense love for her child. A broken family. Broken hearts. And full of hope while inviting you into the shadows of the human experience. Some may think that this is a cruel way to deceive your own child, but others might believe it is as a sweet act of love.

"Dear Frankie" will definitely move even the hardest of hearts. Positively refreshing. It also proves that a movie does not have to be overly elaborate, complex, and violent in order to tell a story. It's beyond the ordinary run of the mill love story. Its simplicity is what drives it while offering itself in the most transparent, unassuming way.

Everything from the acting, to the music, to the cinematography, to the writing is just absolute. The cast did a wonderful job portraying this beautiful tale. You step into the movie and become part of it. Imagine being on a rollercoaster ride full of emotions... pain, love, hope, etc! The final scenes leaves you with your mouths wide open, and full of hope. This endearing, heartfelt story is definitely handled with the sensitivity it deserves!

Like they say... less is more especially at the movies. And don't forget to... BRING TISSUES!

Disclosure: You may need to be very patient as the story unfolds. And there will unquestionably be mixed reviews over this small picture show. So go see it for yourself. Enjoy!
