Movie Review by Zara
January 25th, 2007

Do you have any plastic wrap?

My favorite performance from Jason Schwartzman, in which he plays a grungy slacker who tries to woo the lonely Mirabelle, played by Claire Daines. I don't know if I like it because it reminds me so much of many of the guys that I've dated in the past (aside from the short thing) but I love it nonetheless. The character of Jeremy is kind and earnest and while he couldn't compete with the suav, rich Roy played by Steve Martin, he is the better catch.

The movie is sad in many ways. Daines' character falls for an older man and begins to love him desperately even though she is made perfectly aware that he is incapable of settling down or truly loving another person. While all the signs are in front of her and while she continues to say that she knows and understands him, her heart betrays her practicality and sh*t hits the fan.

There are sporadic laughs and just as many moments where you feel sick to your stomach, remembering the pain that comes with having a broken heart. There is no great revelation at the end for those people who prefer for people to triumph over adverse situations. Just reality settling in as it always ultimately does.
