Either You Like Cronenberg Or You Don't

David Cronenberg is one the most devisive directors on the planet. Either you destest his work or you love it. Coming up from interesting horror ('Scanners', 'The Fly') to more recent triumphs (1996's 'Crash', 2002's 'Spider'), this is by far his best film yet.

It follows a family man (Viggo Mortensen, shedding the 'Rings' once and for all) who life is rocked when he stops a robbery and men begin to show up in his town mistaking him for a hardened gangster that disappeared 20 years ago. The film is at times over dramatic (a definite Cronenbergian touch), but well-made and always interesting to watch. Maria Bello ups her game as the put-upon wife, but this is Mortensen's film. Also notable are Ed Harris and Best Supporting Actor nominee William Hurt, who both once again prove how talented they really are.

I normally like Cronenberg, I do. But this movie disappointed me terribly. I was expecting some mindblowingly good movie based on all the hype and was left with a "WTF?" feeling trying to understand what everyone else thought was so great.
