Movie Review by BillyBob

MEET THE 'ALL-AMERICAN' FAMILY

Meet Tom and Edie Stall - After (at least) 16 years of marriage, and their sex-life is still just so fresh and exciting. Yeah. Having violent, rape-like sex on the hard, wooden stairs inside of their 'Dream Home' is, of course, the best sex of all.

Ho-Hum.

I found that A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE (AHOV) played out just like a frickin' low-budget Made-For-TV Movie.

There are 2 scenes in AHOV that really killed me.

1 - Tom yells at his son for beating up on the highschool bully, saying that you don't accomplish anything by punching someone. Tom's son quickly recalls his father shooting down a man in self-defence and retaliates back by saying, "Well, is it better to shoot them?" Tom's response to this is to smash his son in the face, rendering Tom's words about not using physical force as totally hypocritical.

(Hey! C'mon. Let's face it - The answer to violence is more violence. Yeah. It's as simple as that.)

2 - The final scene in AHOV was ridiculous, to say the least. Tom/Joey, the total socio-pathic killer, has just come back from Philidelphia where he had brutally murdered 6 men, including his very own brother. He returns to his little 'American Dream' Home and his family in Millbrook, Indiana. Even though Tom wasn't exactly greeted with open arms by his wife and kids, he was, in a sense, accepted back into the fold by them all. He was.

And I honestly ask you - How long do you really think that it would be before there'd be some kind of an argument happening within the confines of this truly idiotic, dysfunctional family? And then Tom's murderous past would, of course, be brought into the picture and used as something to throw back in his face. - And - 'How-Now-Brown-Cow' could the rest of the Stall family ever-ever-ever realistically feel 100% safe around Tom? I mean, if this psycho-nut ever flew off into a flying rage, who could possibly have the strength to stop him from doing to them what he did to so many others before, including his very own brother? Eh? Who?

It really figures that this piece of utter movie-nonsense was directed by that noodle-head DAVID CRONENBERG.
