Movie Review by maestro October 20th, 2005

Separate Lies has one of the best screenplays of the year. No wonder, it is written by Julian Fellowes who wrote Gosford Park a few years ago. This is a very taut psychological drama in pursuit of a mystery of who killed whom, and why. At less than 90 minutes, I would say that this film seems too short for what Julian Fellowes manages to compress into its very well packed frame. This movie will go exactly no where since it is too cerebral for most people. Emily Watson, Tom Wilkinson and Rupert Everett form a diabolical triangle that will draw you in, and this is as satisfying a film as you will see this year.
