Movie Review by Jessica Film Junkie
September 7th, 2007

Good, Carpenter Is Great

This is a pretty creepy movie about a young innocent girl possessed by the devil and the priest who tried to exorcise her attempting to defend himself from a manslaughter charge.

Laura Linney plays the defense lawyer just as every strong silent female lawyer has always been played. I am a big fan of hers, but her performance here is plain and ordinary.

Tom Wilkinson gives another great performance as Father Moore. He is a complex and torn individual battling between his faith and what others think is possible.

However the film is stolen by Jennifer Carpenter as Emily Rose. She is brutal and violent under possession while maintaining a frightened young girl whenever the devil leaves her. Carpenter makes one forget all about Linda Blair.
