The box art from 20th Century Fox's DVD Transporter 2"Transporter 2" is a film that says we don't need your stinking plot. We'll borrow the plot from "Man on Fire", we'll have a blond girl in panties, Jason Statham on a Jet ski in the middle of the road, and 85 minutes of evil henchman being picked off by the Transporter's skills. And that is exactly what you get for the whole duration of the film.
Jason Statham is Frank Martin, who has retired from his previous job and now drives around one of those cutesy movie kids as a favor to a friend. The first 5 minutes of the film is about all I enjoyed of this dreadful mess. Statham is an enjoyable figure, full of charisma, charm, and soft spoken coolness. I wish we had more time to learn about him instead of being forced non stop action and violence.
Martin takes the kid to a doctors appointment and finds out it has been a set up. They are trying to inject a deadly poison into the kid and pass it on to the father, who is the head of a anti drug company. So they can get their drugs out there. Yes, this is the best the screen writers can come up with. I picture a group of writers sitting around up at 3am flipping through HBO, viewing "Man on Fire", and adding the drug storyline to make it not a blatant rip off.
Kate Nauta in 20th Century Fox's Transporter 2I know there is a market for these types of films and they do serve a purpose if done well. But if you are not a 13 year old boy or have ADD, I can't possibly see getting any joy out of this film. The movie is basically just a 87 minute car commerical. At first, you are like, wow, pretty cool. Then by minute 20, you are like show me something new already.
Jason Statham in 20th Century Fox's Transporter 2I recently reviewed "Unleashed" and I spoke of how much more the ending violence meant since it had been built up with 45 minutes of character development and it meant something. Here, it just means nothing. When I go to the movies, I wanna see a film. This is just a video game.
There is never any attempt to slow down, look around, and take it all in and ask what it means. After the film ended,I was exhausted and just shocked at what I seen on screen. Not shocked in a good way. But shocked at how cartoony, over the top, silly, stupid, and one dimensional this film really was.
When it comes to "Transporter 2" leave your brain at home. Leave logic at home. Leave theory at home. Leave your money at home.
