Movie Review by Mitch August 22nd, 2006

I grew up watching DOH, so when I heard they were making a movie I got kind of excited. Then I started hearing bad things about it. Then I watched it. Know what I learned? Don't listen to other people. While the movie wasn't Schindler's List or anything. It wasn't as bad as some people say. I enjoyed it and plan on buying it. I do have some problems with the film, which I'll get to in a bit.
The plot. The Duke boys save Hazzard. What else do they ever do? Boss Hogg plans on strip mining Hazzard County and it's up to the Dukes to stop him. He brings a celebrity racer in to race in the annual rally as a distraction so no one will go to the courthouse and object.
The casting was pretty good as long as you aren't expecting the same characters. Sure, they all have the same names, but nobody acts like their character from the show, except maybe for Enos. That is my main issue with the film, but if you can get past that it's a fun flick. Burt Reynolds plays a mean Boss Hogg, not the bumbling fat dude Sorrell Booke used to play. Wait, isn't that Roscoe? Oh, right, that was everybody who wasn't a Duke, lol. Same with Roscoe, just a mean cop. I just wanted to hear that classic Roscoe laugh, just once. Willie Nelson plays a hilariously raunchy Uncle Jesse who basically just spouts crude one liners all the time. Quite different from the TV series, check the best lines for an example. Johnny Knoxville and Sean William Scott are just being themselves, good or bad, I'll let you decide. Jessica Simpson in Daisy Dukes and a bikini? Need I say more? Sorry Judi, but she bounces nicely. The General Lee-of course it's a character, it's the whole reason to watch the movie. Although Jessica Simpson comes in a very close second, it's still all about the car. It's beautiful. They used 26 different Chargers for the movie. And not many digital effects. All the jumps and crazy stunts were real. It's almost worth it just for the stunts.
Couple of things I really wanted to see. Roscoe's laugh, someone saying "Cuff 'em and stuff 'em", cameos by some of the original cast would have been nice, but at least there is a good amount of gratuitous nudity (and more in the additional scenes!).
Let's see, what else. Two great blooper reels- one PG-13, one unrated. Jessica Simpson music video.
In the end. Not the same but not completely stupid either.
Best lines:
Luke: How was it?
Bo: It's never bad.
Bo: I'm never getting' out of this car again! I'm gonna eat in it, I'm gonna sleep in it, and I'm gonna make sweet love to it!
Luke: You mean you're gonna make sweet love in it.
Bo: No, I'm gonna f*ck it.
Luke: Actually we prefer Appalachian Americans.
Uncle Jesse: What I'm about to do, I don't want to remember a lot of it.
Luke: You thinkin' about throwin' that?
Uncle Jesse: Oh, I'm gonna throw it... I was thinkin' about pu**y.
Uncle Jesse: An apple a day'll keep the doctor away darlin.
Beauregard and Lukas Duke, can you dig it?
Till the next "talkie",
Mitch
