Movie Review by Seth
July 1st, 2005

I was not impressed. I'm tired of saying "the special effects were great but the story was lacking." I think we can all agree that the special effects ability of Hollywood is impressive. Now it's time to get back to working on the story.

Dakota Fanning is a fine young actress, but it's sad that she is by far the best performer in this film. The plot has huge holes, mostly on the alien side of things (if the movie did one thing right it made a pretty good guess as to the reactions of humanity under such conditions). It is visually impressive, but no more so than any other high budget film you've seen in the last 3 years.

If you like standard blockbusters, it's worth catching in the theater. But don't expect anything above or beyond the norm.

im glad im not the only one. Spielberg doesn't allow this film to fully cook; it just ends. I thought Cruise was finally getting on the right track with Collateral, but he's just awful in this film.

and whats with the surviving son in the end, or the out-of-place and unjustifiable murder of robbins?

Why, spielberg? why?
