Movie Review by Lance
June 18th, 2005

"The Honeymooners". This was going to be the last chance I gave Cedric the Entertainer before I sued him for false advertising with the name. Sure, his Bud commercials were funny, but he has yet to bring anything to table in the movies. He did have the best speech in the rank "Be Cool", but that's a lot like winning the Special Olympics. So there I am, not five minutes into the film at the local cinaplex and I have to start fighting the urge to borrow the glock from the gansta sitting behind me and swallow a cap, as they say (Actually, I don't know if they say that. It just sounds cool). Both Cedric and Mike Epps do little more than ape Jackie Gleason and Art Carney. What's the point? They bring nothing of their own to the roles, and the improvisational dance scenes were probably a lot funnier on the set than how they turned out on film. But at least they can act. Sadly that is not the case with Gabrielle Union, as Alice. Union may have hit her peak as the token minority hire on "Friends". Directed by The Connells' former drummer, John Schultz, he should have stuck with slackjawed rock. The movie just limps along from tired set piece to even tireder (is that a word?) set piece with nary a thought to plot or character development. This film was produced by Paramount and as a stock holder in VIACOM, their parent company: I ask, no demand, that if they ever work with Cedric again, he be legally forced to change his name to "Cedric The Non-Threatening Black Man Who Gets All The Gigs Bernie Mac Turns Down" Ooppps. Too late. Cedric 'The Entertainer' has already conspired with Paramount to ruin the memory of "Charlotte's Web" early next year. Hello, EF Hutton? Sell, sell, sell. Avoid "The Honeymooners" like John Leguizamo avoids reading a script before he signs on to do it. You have been warned.
