Could Have Been Better

Being that the original Amityville Horror was not to big with the critics, it became a classic, mainly because of the house. Which was freaky. I had a strong feeling that the remake was going to fail, well it definaitely fell with the critics, and failed by me. While the original house returns to continue to haunt our dreams, the rest of the film lacked so much which could have been better. With cheap thrills, cheap effects and cheap filmmaking techniques, it really had so much it could have been but wasnt.

This movie wasnt so much about how the house kills the people, but instead, the house changes a man. George Lutz (Ryan Reynolds), is a happily married man with 3 step kids. His wife, Kathy Lutz, has thoughts on her mind about moving. When they go out searching one day, they find a beautiful home, a scary home, but beautiful. The realtor responsible for selling the house tells them that a father once went crazy in the house, killing his wife, his kids, then himself. A little freaked out, they by pass the tale and move in anyway. For the next month, Goerge changes for the worse, leading to the killing of his dog, and an attempt to kill his family.

Ryan Reynolds (Smokin' Aces) was one of the only good actors in the movie. Now, im not saying his performance was amazing, but it was good. He has a weird sense of humor and can also be scary at the same time. He has some crazy black humor to. Melissa George plays as Kathy, a very emotional and sometimes stupid mother. Her acting got bad quick, also I kind of got tired of hearing her cry over stupid sh*t.

The film kind of took a turn from the modern day method of adding tons and tons of gore to a film, we get a little bit in here. Mainly the film attempted to make the film scarier by adding suspense and an attempt at using your imagination to see whats really scary. This is one part of the film that really lacks. The film is also very boring and drawn out. By the end, I was seriously disspointed by the whole experience, which there was none of. From the bad acting, to bad visual effects and tons of flaws, theres no way I can absoulutely enjoy this movie.

Bottom Line: Another remake, another failure.
