Movie Review by Lance
June 18th, 2005

Matthew McConaughey in "Sahara". A bunch of pretty people, in pretty locations doing pretty much nothing at all. I've never read Clive Cussler's books: but I'm going to go out on limb and say he didn't mean for his hero, Dirk Pitt, to just be a vacuous Chippendales dancer on a spree. That's basically what you get from McConaughey. Penelope Cruz is easy on the eyes as well, but there is no chemistry between the two and the overly-long travelog only sputters brief signs of life when Steve Zahn, the loveable sidekick, tosses in a one liner. Here's all you need to know about "Sahara": they pull a 'Matt Damon'. That is: when the pretty boy action star has to pull off a fight scene, they do it all in close shots, odd angles and sharp cuts, to cover the fact that he punches like a girl. Avoid "Sahara" like sand in the fruit of the looms and save your money for "Kung Fu Hustle" when it opens next week. You have been warned!
