Movie Review by Zara
July 20th, 2007

I might look like Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farms

Let me start by saying that there are problems with this movie that most people will pick on. Namely, they're most likely not going to like the family members' reactions to the suicide of the middle (and most exalted) son. There is grief and there is obvious pain, but no one writhes around moaning and fussing and doing what most people expect to see in a movie about a death of this nature.

Instead the characters are a hell of a lot more complex than that. Which is where people are going to get frustrated. We go to movies to be able to have everything spelled out for us, to distinctly understand the motivation of people since we're unable to effectively do that in real life. When movies get confusing, people tend to tune out.

I'll say that I have a couple of problems with the movie myself but they're minor. What I really did like though were the strong performances by Weaver and Daniels, each unique people in their own rite who handle their lives on a completely separate plain. Weaver alone makes this movie worth watching.

The other part of the movie that is really good is the fact that there are some secrets revealed and while they're never fully hidden, (as most secrets are - just below the skin but ignored for the most part) and they might be easy for some people to figure out, you don't spend the whole movie trying to pin them down. Because that's not what it's about.
