Movie Review by Rodney
January 13th, 2006

From Dirty Harry himself, comes another phenominal film. Clint Eastwood (Mystic River, Unforgiven), brings us another unforgetable story about a poor girl whose only dream was to become a boxer. Hillary Swank (Boys Don't Cry, The Core) is Maggie, a resilient wanna-be boxer that wont take no for an answer. After much persistance, Maggie convinces boxing manager Frankie (Eastwood) to train her. Maggie comes from a trailer park trash family whom barely has enough money for food, yet she never gives up her dream to become a great fighter. Slwoly, Frankie becomes more than just her boxing manager, he becomes her family.

Morgan Freeman narrates and stars as the old gym owner in a performance that rivals his role in The Shawshank Redemption. He admires Maggie for her efforts and adds a spark to the fire of her out-of-reach vision. This film won 4 oscars (Best Actress Hillary Swank, Bes Supporting Actor Morgan Freeman, Best Director Clint Eastwood and Best picture of the year) and it's not hard to see why. The characters are real and have true feeling behind their words. If you buy one DVD this year, let Million Dollar Baby be your choice.

Eddie Scrap-Iron Dupris: If there's magic in boxing, it's the magic of fighting battles beyond endurance, beyond cracked ribs, ruptured kidneys and detached retinas. It's the magic of risking everything for a dream that nobody sees but you.
