I was surprised by how much this film floored me. I felt like I could barely sit up when it was over, and couldn't believe it when the woman next to me got up about 5 minutes from the end crumpling wrappers on the way out. I wasn't expecting to feel such an intense emotional connection with characters in a "sports movie," but each one had an intensity I could feel. Clint Eastwood has a way of wrenching pathos out of the everyday life of the cast (from Swank gnawing on leftover steak to the letters at Frankie's door) that was incredible. This movie reminded me that Hilary Swank is one talented actress. Anyone who can play a girl playing a boy in one film and a buff poverty-stricken boxer in another is pretty impressive.
