Movie Review by Zara
July 29th, 2009

It's been so long since I watched the first couple of installments of this franchise that I decided to view it as a stand-alone piece where I just took what background information that they decided to throw at me as if I was just learning it.

The good stuff: Ryan Reynolds got a chance to showcase that he can be physical and funny at the same time. He's unconventionally good looking (that overbite of his can look downright criminal at times) with an outstandingly muscular body and when he's directed well, he can be quite funny while delivering on the other goods as well. And while this movie is lacking in having a solid story or even anything above laughable dialog, I will give it this: it is directed sharply. For a nearly 2 hour long movie, the time passes by fairly painlessly, something that is hard to pull off with a movie that isn't all that great.

I also enjoy Jessica Biel when she is being more physical in roles (I liked her in STEALTH for this reason as well). To me, she could be an above average action star if she decided this was an option, but knowing her background she's talking about wanting as much range as possible. And she really reaches for it by hitting up everything from action to comedy to drama. I have to hand it to her that she's fighting against all odds to not be pigeonholed. That's a feat unto itself.

So that's the good stuff. The bad stuff is that the fight sequences are anywhere from bad to downright silly (my 8 1/2 year old daughter started laughing at one of the Wesley Snipes scenes at one point, mocking that the fight looked like "two girls slapping each other") and the concept of being able to eradicate all of the vampires with some confusing pathogen is just ridiculous. Especially when the hybrid vampire lives. It's not just baffling, it's erroneous.

If you want a good laugh, I suppose you could try this movie out. Or if you're a big fan of the other two movies (I wasn't), you might like it. But as a movie viewed as a stand-alone, it's definitely lacking.

Ye! I'm not that big a fan of any of the Blade movies either to be honest. But i remember being forced into watching this one a few years back and hating it! Its defently the worst one.
