Movie Review by Sheryl
February 1st, 2005

Gael, you are a bad, bad, boy. Thank you for allowing me to be a fly on your bad, bad wall.

I love Almodovar. As always, he plays with gender roles, sexuality, and the deep dark desires of us sordid human beasts, but does it with a color and an artist's benign touch. It's sort of like being picked up in Dorothy's tornado and realizing that technicolor Oz is real life after all. Well, maybe not quite like that.

Gael Garcia Bernal is practically naked in one scene, which is, in itself, almost a good enough reason to see this movie. But in addition to that, Almodovar paints a complex story with rich characters that make you want to come back for more. (ahem) Only if you are incredibly lucky in your relations can you take your grandma to see this movie. When we are grandparents, however, this will be a nostalgic classic.
