Movie Review by B Movie Ben
March 14th, 2007

I got the bad taste out of my mouth

I have never been a judge at a tasting, whether it be wine or chili or whatever. I do understand that it is necessary to eat something in between tastes, like crackers, to cleanse the palate - or so I have been told. I want to see Walk the Line, but I had a distinctivly bad taste in my mouth in regard Joaquin Phoenix. I cannot get the part he played in The Gladiator out of focus.

So, I came across this little film he did with Claire Danes and Sean Penn called It's All About Love. He plays a man (in 2021) who is on his way to get a divorce from his wife, an ice skater, and stumbles on mysterious happenings regarding her. He tries to save her in the midst of a world cataclysm. I don't know what kept me watching this movie until the end except to say that I had to see the ending. Suffice it to say that the vision of Phoenix in Gladiator is out of my head.

I was then able to see Walk the Line. I wish I didn't have to suffer through It's It's All About Love to get me there. Thomas Vinterberg may be a visionary director, but I don't get his vision.
