The Genius Payne

This is the one movie I can honestly recommend to just about anyone. Paul Giamatti ('American Splendor') and Thomas Hayden Church (TV's 'Wings') play two buddies out for a final weekend of wine tasting and fun before Church's Jack gets married. They come across a waitress and a wine pourer and the adventure that is their self-obsession and denial begins. The performances are outstanding and one of my favorite actresses, Sandra Oh (you loved her in many things, but check out 'Last Night') gives one her best.

Alexander Payne is rebirthing the creativity of the 70's movement that spawned Scorsese and Altman so check out his earlier works 'Citizen Ruth', 'Election' and 'About Schmidt'. He is the master of real life stories that create their own comedies without need for overdone plotlines.

Also one of my favorite movie endings, right up their with 'Before Sunset', of 2004.
