Movie Review by Tim
October 15th, 2007

I haven't slept in a year.

Favorite Movie Quotes from : The Machinist

Trevor Reznik: I wish there is someway I can repay you.
Miller: Well, for a start, you can give me your left arm.

Another film that I didn't know anything going into. I am getting tired of this same Fight Club / Memento script that keeps floating around with just minor rewrites, getting worse every time its made.

I will say that Christian Bale reportedly lost 83 pounds for his role in this movie (the record for any actor losing for a role) and it takes you a good 30 minutes to quit making a bitter face every time you see him because he is so bony.

The Plot is very boring, predictable and it leaves a lot unexplained. Several plot holes are never concluded or explained which I can't stand. There is a whole sort of state fair / carnival scene that they never explained how he was there when he did'nt even know the people that he was there with for example. I like Christian Bale a lot and think that he did a great job with the role but the script just plain sucks......If your going to make these films that have characters that don't really exist and have people experiencing some sort of delusions then you need to make them interesting and original.

I'm not sorry that I watched it by no means but it was just not keeping me awake at 2:00 in the morning. It might be worth adding that Jennifer Jason Leigh is great in this as well, I have enjoyed and followed her since her role in Road to Perdition and this was a nice change for her.
