Movie Review by Joe
May 15th, 2006

I went into this movie without any pre-conceived notions. The first five minutes of the movie, however, had me laughing in stitches, even though it wasn't anything really to laugh about, how it happened was something humerous to me.

The movie centers around young American Karen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and her boyfriend Doug (Jason Behr), who move to Tokyo. Karen gets a job as a hospice caretaker for the elderly Emma Williams (Grace Zabriskie) after her first caretaker Yoko mysteriously disappeared.

While in the house Karen discovers a young boy named Toshio and his cat in the attic, and shortly afterwards she is attacked by a weird spirit.

The movie doesn't focus too much on the actors of the movie, but rather on the storyline. There is a lot of flashbacks and jump-scenes that made it an interesting movie to watch. Seeing what happened to Emma's family members was interesting and terrifying, and as Karen unraveled the mystery of the house we are treated with several thrills and chills along the way.

I have much respect for the ancient customs and beliefs of the Japanese community. They believe that if a person dies in a fit of rage, their spirit lingers in the spot where they died, seeking revenge on anyone who enters the house. Makes you want to build your own house from scratch.

James out!

Opening text: When someone dies in the grip of a powerful rage, a curse is born. The curse manifests in that place of death. Anyone who encounters it is consumed by its fury.
