Hooked Me... Lost me
I'm working my way through the Bourne series finally, figuring that I might as well start checking it out since it's become a viable alternative for the Bond series. I rather liked the first one, perhaps surprised by how little Damon annoyed me and how much I enjoyed Potente.
I was disappointed that they killed off Potente's character Marie in this installment, although I understand that if the movies (slash books) were going to continue, she was a sitting duck. There really wasn't much involvement with her here, which saddened me, because the two had excellent chemistry in the first movie. It was what lent credibility to Jason Bourne trying to figure out who he was and gave him motivation to want to start a new life.
But this installment really turned out to be nothing more than another spy movie escapade, finding out little more about who Jason Bourne really is. They chose something so completely out of the way (his first murder was of some Russian dude and he inadvertently had to kill the guy's wife as well and set it up as a murder suicide... ok, tell me why I should care again?) and then built off of that. It's to be expected in these types of movies, but not all that original.
I liked Karl Urban as the secret service guy who kills Marie (oh, if this is spoiling anything for anyone, let that be a head's up to anyone new who reads my reviews... I don't do "Spoiler Alerts") even though he was supposed to be a despicable character. Hell, you don't really get to see all that much of him, but I just love his look.
So.... if things keep up this pace, when ULTIMATUM is released shortly (on DVD), I'll be giving that two stars. *Sigh* There are times when I don't like to have something be reliable.
