Movie Review by Skye
June 19th, 2008

Sometimes you just have to be in the right mood to see a particular movie. When I first saw Garden State I found it and its creator Zach Braff to be long, drawn out and pretentious. Then the right mood came along. All of a sudden I found myself enjoying it, really enjoying it. This actually was a great story. It obviously always was.

I found this story of a young man going through a period of introspection and self-awareness to be exhilarating. Braff really wrote a captivating and encapsulating piece of indie cinema here. The characters, relationships and tensions are all in place and unravel beautifully. Adding to the great ensemble is Natalie Portman and Peter Sarsgaard. These two actors really round out the stellar cast nicely. Portman as an uncomfortable, but confident young woman makes you sympathize and celebrate her coming of age.

I was real glad to have given this film a second chance, I guess, sometimes, you do get a second chance to make a first impression.
