Disney Channel on hormones
What bet did Steve Carrell lose that he ended up having to be in this pile of sh*t? I certainly hope that it was for something gnarly or that he at least got a semi-decent paycheck out of it. I wouldn't want to think that this was something he would consider a good career move. Hell, most people don't know he was in it and he'd probably like to keep it that way. Well, neener neener Steve. I'll be adding you to the cast list soon enough.
I ended up buying this piece of garbage when we were at Hollywood Video today, mainly because it was in the bargain bin of used DVDs and at $2.50 it was cheaper to buy it than to pay the $4 to rent a newer piece of garbage. I normally try to stagger my NetFlix selections so that there's something I can watch with My Midget, but unfortunately this was a weekend full of 'inappropriate' viewing material. (See? I actually parent sometimes!)
I despise the message that this movie was inadvertently trying to send. See, I don't think it was trying to send a message at all. Kind of like many of the tabloid magazines out there on the market geared at pre-teens.
A group of girls who are supposed to have a sleepover (hey, we did weird sh*t back in my day too) end up on a scavenger hunt which includes sneaking into a 21 and over club, having a drink with one of their teachers (who doesn't seem all that embarrassed about losing his job over having his picture taken with these girls and in fact welcomes their dating advice) and... well, more or less this is saying that you need to be pretty, you need to be popular and boys are an absolute necessity in your life.
Just not the boys that are goofy and your age. The ones that are at least a few years older (while it's never stated, they were driving so that pegs them at a minimum of 16 when it's clearly stated multiple times that the girls are only 14) and only if they're popular and wanted by a bunch of other girls as well. In fact, it's perfectly acceptable to get into fights over these boys with another girl.
I also take issue with the fact that they've completely white-washed Alexa Vega, the cute little Mexican girl from the SPY KIDS movies, turning her into something that makes America Ferrera look like Paris Hilton (in terms of white-itude.)
Lousy. I'm actually going to apologize to my daughter for buying this.
