The ads pushed this flick as a comedy, but the sharpness of its insights move it into deeper zones of drama. As a satire this one doesn't just poke fun -- it actually (perhaps often unintentionally) makes some truly credible statements; its headlong fearlessness may account for some of the brilliance. The subject in target is (broadly) Christian hypocrisy. It takes place at an Evangelical high school where the students have been so long bred on the Gospel that the narrowness of indoctrination is causing many teen-life crises. The movie's major strength is two-fold; primarily, the makers don't restrain in looking frankly at the issue, plus they have the added advantage of managing to sneek their point-of-view in most insidiously. They appear to be giving Christianity a fair defense when they really aren't.

| couldnt agree more. Saved shines light on the darkside of christianity: the people even christians abhor -- self-righteous tormentors. |

I agree with the love for the movie, it's excellent...but I think that you're entirely wrong in thinking that the fair defense of Christianity was unintentional; it was a major part of the filmmakers' goal for the film, especially if you read interviews.
Other than that, though, glad to see that there are other people who dig this underrated little satire. |
