Movie Review by Jarrod
November 5th, 2007

'Harold and Kumar' is one of my favorite comedies. Ever. Few movies have made me laugh more loudly or more consistently. Harold (John Cho) lives with Kumar (Kal Penn). Kumar's father is a doctor pressuring him to go to med school; Harold works at an office building. They get stoned and develop a craving for White Castle, famous for its mini-sized burgers. This is what starts them on their eventful journey, filled with mishaps and weird encounters, from Neil Patrick Harris to a mechanic named Freakshow (played by Christopher Meloni), who has grotesque boils on his face and neck (and undoubtedly other places) that bleed some sort of disgusting fluid.

It is raunchy and vulgar, but also surprisingly smart. Cho and Penn are a fantastic duo. Cho you may remember from American Pie, where he popularized the word "milf". Penn starred in that awful Van Wilder sequel, about Taj, and a good drama called The Namesake. A lot of ethnic humor, but nothing particularly cruel or offensive, at least not more so than Apu on the Simpsons, who is very much an Indian caricature. And I also really like David Krumholtz as Goldstein, who lives next door to Harold and Kumar, and declines their invitation to grab some late-night munchies, because he wants to stay home and see Katie Holmes's breasts. Surprisingly, director Danny Leiner did Dude, Where's My Car, which I absolutely hated.

I don't care if it's funnier that two guys of different ethnic origins doing the same sh*t that white frat boys do in other movies. I don't care about the political/moral/ethical implications of all that. Honestly, I don't.

Plus John Cho is smokin'.
