Movie Review by Zombie Boy
December 12th, 2007

Now this one REALLY went up horror fan's asses :)

Before I even get started, let me say that I saw this film four times in the theater. First run. Not even dollar theater.

The remake or not to remake debate flourishes in the horror community, with most proposed projects falling into the "don't" category. This was one of the few times when I was all for it. I felt it could only be an improvement (yeah, yeah, I know, I'm a pariah).

From the opening of the film, with the creepy little girl zombie (pastiche to Kyra Schon in NOTLD?) to the opening credits featuring When the Man Comes Around by Johnny Cash, to the way Zack Snyder and James Gunn (my personal hero) actually made the mall isolation interesting and fun, this movie is a gem all around. It has fast-paced action, well-drawn characters, and seriously squishy kills.

Just like in the original, zombies just sort of pop out of the ground and start stalking the living. Our intrepid band of survivors congregate at the local mall, and hold up as long as they can. Personality clashes add to the tension along with the horde of cannibalistic creatures, and much fun is had by the viewer. A great effort, worthy of adding to your collection.

PS: The name of the store that they throw the toilet through the window of is Gaylen Ross. Two points if you get the reference.

Gaylen Ross is the one "chick" from the original and was also in Creepshow.....where is my points.

Also this was a great film but I do not consider it a remake...It was way to different then the original script to be a remake I think...Its just another zombie flick that a shopping mall is part of the film.

I did like Ving Rhames in this but it confuses me why he has been cast again in the Day of the Dead remake.
