Not the Best but Certainly Not the Worst
Catwoman Movie Review
Director: Pitof
Actors: Halle Berry, Sharon Stone, and Benjamin Bratt
Rated PG-13: For Action Violence and Some Sensuality
Patience Philips (Halle Berry) is a struggling, insecure graphic designer at Hedare Beauty, a cosmetics company that is about to release an anti-aging cream. When she discovers that the cream has a deadly side effect, Patience is murdered. Shortly thereafter, she's reborn, discovering that she has a variety of cat-like superpowers.
Catwoman was a good film but despite the negative buzz and surrounding bad vibes it didn't surpass those expectations. The movie had good Acting, horrible Directing, CGI filled Special Effects, and somewhat interesting Writing. Let me first start off by saying that this was supposedly Halle Berry's last superhero film, unless they were to make an X-Men 3, which they did, and this movie is a perfect example of what an ending to superhero movies, for Berry, should not be. Thank god there was an X-Men 3 proving she can actually make a good end to her superhero career.
The acting in this film was probably its strongest aspect; you have Halle Berry playing a very shy and insecure woman, then Berry playing a "sexy" catwoman who stalks those, at night, who originally killed her. Then you have Berry's best friend in the film Sally, who is played by the ever so funny Alex Borstein, who was definitely the comic relief. You then have Benjamin Bratt who played the confused cop/love interest of catwoman; though the film could have done without him he was a valuable part in this film, I mean who else could have swept catwoman off her paws long enough to arrest her. Last but not least you have Sharon Stone, who played the villain, and definitely did a horrific job I might add.
The fact of the final showdown being between to women, catfight, was stupid and quite frankly it didn't even come close to meeting any sort of expectations.
The story/plot of the movie was a debilitating beauty cream, which would make either your skin stronger or if you were to stop using it your face would rot away. Catwoman who has a direct connection to the company, which neatly ties together the movie, this way she doesn't have to roam the streets finding someone to fight, Must find a way to stop the beauty crème from hitting the store shelves. Though it plays into the movie very well the story doesn't make the movie a five star film.
One very huge negative aspect surrounding the film was the CGI/Special Effects in the movie, though I do realize that Berry nor Pitof could not make Berry jumping from building to building look real, and it definitely did not. Even though some of the stuff that Berry does while she's transitioning into a catwoman like sleeping, eating, and her reaction to catnip are very helpful toward the movies fun and entertainment it only adds some fun to the movie not much though.
Also the opening credits to the film add some sort of history and great renditions of historical catwomen to the movie; even though they never really explore these historical pictures/scriptures they are needed to make the movie more interesting to the public.
The director of the movie I believe had a great vision of the film but it didn't quite come out of his eye the way he planned it originally and because of that I believe he lost some originality of the film, though it does not borrow from movies it doesn't quite make a movie of it's own genre either.
Overall this is a decent film though it does not prove to be the all-time best superhero film it certainly does not prove it not to be.
