Smart and Smart
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie, considering how much I normally am annoyed by Ashton Kutcher. It helped that I like Amy Smart, that go-to pretty blonde white girl who never has managed to break out. (At least she hasn't gone the Tara Reid route. Things could be worse.)
A guy has been having blackouts from the time that he was a small child. Trying to figure out where all of the pain and confusion came from, he discovers that he is able to go back within himself during those black out times.
However, much like Doc tried to warn Marty about not f*cking with past events in the BACK TO THE FUTURE series, Kutcher very much does screw with things hoping that it's going to lead to him having a happier future when he gets back.
I like the movie because it ties into my firm belief that we should never have any regrets in life. Everyone likes to pose the question of "what would you change if you could go back in time?" Problem with that is we erase all of the good things that have happened to us as a result of that one indiscretion. Thus... the butterfly effect. If you don't understand that concept, look it up.
And stop regretting screwing the babysitter. Hell, it probably saved her tons of future mental anguish.

| I liked this movie alot when I saw it on the cinema, and was mildly surprised by Ashtons departure from the 'good looking moron' roles he usually plays. I liked the concept but the cinema ending didn't really work for me, so I was super happy when it came out on dvd with the alternative ending where he went back to being in his mums womb and killed himself, this ending made more sense and tied up a few loose ends........nice review by the way. |

4 Stars? Hmm, I don't know. I didn't hate it but I don't think I'd watch it more than one more time. Yeah, definitely only 3 stars for me.
I did dread this movie AND tempered my dread with all the same reasons as your first paragraph. I also agree with the belief about regrets. One of my favorite movie quotes comes from Lucas in Empire Records. "I do not regret the things I've done, but those I did not do." |
