Movie Review by Justin
March 12th, 2006

It's become something of a pastime to hate on this big-screen comic book blowup. But truth is, it's the best stylized of 'em all. Its shot and edited in a way that perfectly lifts the mode of pop art right from the pages of the book. In bringing the not-so-jolly green giant to life, the makers utilize digital imagery that looks quite good in close ups. The action provides a whole lotta bang for yer buck, but what's more engaging is the storytelling, which nails the uniqueness of Bruce Banner's tragic dilemma – time comes when he doesn't know which face shows his real self: the introverted scientist or the temper tantrum-throwing giant green infant. Unlike Spidey, the gamma radiation he's exposed to doesn't turn him into something new, it simply acts upon genetic components already inside him. Talk about one monster of a self-identity conflict. Surprisingly straight-faced, the film is fun and involving, and textured with shades of Freudian pop-psychology.
