Movie Review by Seth C October 22nd, 2006

A couple of reviews ago I said it was hard for a sequel to stay fresh and even harder for them to outshine the origianl. It seems, however, that "Scary Movie 3" is the acceptation.
There's no continuity to the "Scary Movie" films, it's just that the latest one - no matter what number is behind it - is spoofing the latest blockbusters and fads. The first two "Scary Movie" films were rated R and the comedy was vulgar and perverted, so the films were more offensive than they were funny. Then again, maybe this was the filmmaker's point all along, who knows?
"Scary Movie 3" is the first film in the series not to be made by the Wayans brothers and honestly, thank God for that. So far nothing that Shawn or Marlon Wayans has done has struck me as amusing or even entertaining. Their humor is distasteful, hateful, disgusting and just not my cup of tea. "Scary Movie 3," directed by David Zucker, is rated PG-13 and that maybe why I think the film succeeds. The humor is humor that everyone can get, enjoy and it's rather harmlessly, give or take a few elementary sex gags that the film offers up. Zucker, who helmed the classic "Airplane" and "Naked Gun" pictures, brings his humor to a franchise that seriously needed SOMETHING to keep the ball rolling, which Zucker apparently succeed in as a "Scary Movie 4" seems to already be in the works.
Of course, the humor of "Scary Movie 3" is not for everyone; it's the type of humor that's blatantly stupid and either you find it funny or, well, you find it stupid. I find it funny especially all of the shots the film takes at the best film I saw in 2002, M. Night Shyamalan's "Signs" and one of the worst, "8 Mile."
If you didn't like the first two "Scary Movie" films, please don't hold their distaste against this much cleaner and funnier part of the francise. However, if you didn't like any of the "Naked Gun" films, than you mays just want to stay away from this film altogether.
