A surprisingly intellectual comedy-okay I'm lying
This is another case of a movie whose preview does no justice to the actual film itself. When I saw the coming atrraction in the theater, I thought it was another unfunny sendup of an already worn out comedic set-upl(nice guy getting crapped on by over zealous boss). However most of the cast makes the movie worth viewing.
Ashton Kutcher is effective in the nice guy role typically filled by Ben Stiller. He could have taken a more flashy role at this point in his career but he unselfishly plays the straight guy and is great at it. Molly Shannon is hilarious as the stereotype spewing ex co-worker of Tom's(Ashton). Every time she's on screen, you can expect a cheap laugh or two. However poor Tara Reid and Carmen Electra are forced to fill vapid and one dimensional roles. Both actresses have fared much better in comedies(Tara in Dr. T and the Women and Carmen in Dirty Love).
Director David Zucker is no strager to comedy(Scary Movie 3 and the Naked Gun movies). His style adds a little more personality to the movie, more than it should have. The best way to watch this movie is with no expectations at all and in the same mindset as 80's comedies. Not everything works, but enough of it does to warrant a recommendation Overall, this is good mindless entertainment.

| Hmm, yeah, the cast of this movie is another reason I didn't want to see it. Tara Reid and Carmen Electra usually do play pretty vapid roles. I'm sure there are exceptions to that but that is their typical fare. |
