I'm from the 'bu, y'all
I suppose you have to have grown up around the area that is portrayed in MMW (for me, I lived a stone's throw from the 'bu, as evidenced by some of those pictures I took of the orange sky.... oh, you'd have to be on the extra special secret profile to have seen dem pics.... Sowwy.)
I knew so many guys who were like B-Rad that it wasn't even a joke anymore in person. Guys who lived in their mom and dad's spare "guest" room, pretending that they weren't a part of the family anymore but eating all the food, not paying rent and still getting mom to do their laundry all while they barely made it to their lousy jobs just to be able to afford the silver shining spinning things on their tires.
See, these were the kids of the hippies, those parents who believed that it was ok if their children wanted to rebel a little. So instead of smoking dope and listening to rock music like their parents did, these little punks went to rap music and gin and juice. It happens every turn around.
Those of us who weren't as affluent would just sit back and laugh our asses off when we spotted one of them sitting, crying, next to their rolled Escalade.
It's there that I think Kennedy got it right. That whole concept works well, even if it is topical only for this particular area of the map.
The problem is the rest of the movie. They tried to build a story out of what would have sufficed as a very hysterical MAD TV skit. So I can understand why there are people out there who don't like the movie. Me personally, I'll watch it if I'm lounging in sick mode, flipping channels. It's like nostalgic and sh*t, yo.

| I agree. I thought Kennedy was hilarious...it was just the story mode bullsh*t that got it f*cked up. Now that you mention it...the MAD TV skit would've been a bigger hit with Kennedy's character. :) |
