Movie Review by Jenny

Jeux d'enfants, or Love Me If You Dare is one of those Secretary-like love stories. It's a little bit different, it may put you off a bit, but it's a great love story nonetheless.

Sophie is the new girl at school and is constantly teased, but Julien saves her from ridicule. Meanwhile, Julien is experiencing some troubles at home. The two quickly become inseperable. They create a game of dare. Julien has this music box that he considers treasure. Whoever has the music box must give the other a dare. They must complete it, and then they get the music box and has to give the other a dare to complete. The dares get more and more intense throughout the movie. Julien and Sophie are also blatantly in love with each other, but neither wants to give up their friendship or their game.

I was very impressed with this movie. I hadn't heard much about it, only that it was good. I have to be in contact with people in France for my job (though I don't speak a lick of French), and they recommended it as well saying that they loved the actors in this film. They were right about that, the two main actors are wonderful. Marion Cotillard who plays Sophie, looks very familiar to me. I'll have to check out more of her stuff out. She's gorgeous. And Guillaume Canet, who plays Julien, is so adorable. He's got the "boyishly charmingly handsome" thing down. I hear he just directed a French thriller movie and won a "Cesar" for it. I'll be checking that one out as well.

Other than the actors being fantastic, and the interesting and different story, I have to mention the cinematography. The DVD cover is simply gorgeous, and the entire movie follows that pattern. There are dream-like sequences that reminded me of a cross between "The Science of Sleep" and "Moulin Rouge". It's breathtaking.

This is definately one that I'll be recommending, and purchasing for my own.

OK, if it's meant to put people off, I'm all over it. Thanks for the recommendation.

Yup! That's always the first thing I hear about it, "It's not your typical love story"... You'll love it.
