Love... Amusingly
A movie with multiple angles approaching the question of what love really is and what you'd be willing to do for it, this movie hinges on being Britishly quaint and Americanly cutesy. The match seems to work very well.
I normally don't like Hugh Grant, and this is one of the movies where I was forced to tolerate him since his character is fairly prominate among all of the others. However, it's the smaller characters, like the two stand-ins in a movie who are naked and pretending to have sex and yet talking about going out on a date that make the movie so cute.
The woman that Grant eventually falls for is also extremely charming, which helps out his line in the story and I adore the fact that she's a little bit thick as far as movie stars go.
There are depressing parts as well, seeing a husband and wife get into marital issues is never a fun thing to be a witness of. There's such an uncomfortable feeling of stumbling into something like that.
All in all, this is the perfect chick flick, girl holding the tub of ice cream in one hand and the box of tampons in the other.
