Remake or Overhaul?

Because I enjoyed this movie so much, I went back and rented the original that it supposedly was a remake of. While there are some similarities, the main thing that's missing is the charisma and charm of the characters that they've chosen to use in this movie.

The two leads (Wahlberg and Theron) are good looking people with established names. It is them that most people went to see the movie for. However, once you start watching the movie, there are others who are more interesting. Statham, as Handsome Rob is a great addition, a funny play on how he's currently being perceived within the action genre community.

Mos Def as the guy who's all about blasting things up is cute as hell. Sure, you could choose to look at him as the token black guy, but I just don't see his character that way. Seth Green as the computer expert is also a great addition.

The main problem that I had with the movie is one of the actors that I like best. Edward Norton got locked into doing this movie and then decided that he really didn't want to be involved. The back story is that if he hadn't made it he would have been fined for his non-participation. So he went ahead and put in the time but was very angry about the whole thing and held up parts of the production just to be a sh*t about it. When I read about that, I lost a great deal of respect for the man that I thought was a great (and professional) actor. The main time when this anger he had about the movie works is when Wahlberg confronts him in the restaurant.

Now I can't wait for the sequel. Yeah, I'm one of those dorks who likes sequels.

Sequels? How cute. They're called "franchises" now. :-) Thank you...I have found a myspace blog topic for the day.

I did enjoy this movie but I still say the original was better it had Mickey Cane in it with great lines like "your only meant to blow the bloody doors off" and real mini coopers before they got arse f*cked by BMW and turned into yuppie wagons. Ok I'll stop waving my Union Jack flag now...enough said methinks.

Wasn't that impressed with this movie. Has some great actors, but something was lacking....
