Movie Review by Suzanne
March 19th, 2008

You'll falafel your chair laughing!

The Guru is a good feeling, light and easy romantic comedy. I dont think you can ever really go wrong with this type of movie. It uses the same basic principles of other romantic comedies, with originality.

Jimi Mistry is Ramu Gupta, a man who's love of dance and American movies inspire him to become an actor. His friend Vijay tells him hes made it big in America and Ramu decides to try his luck. When he arrives he finds that Vijay is not a star, but drives a cab and waits tables for an Indian restaurant. When Ramu answers an ad for a role that is not at all what he expected, he meets Sharonna played by Heather Graham, who just wants to save enough money to get married and buy a little house in Throgsneck. She gives him some advice on how to loosen up.

Ramu then gets into a little trouble when he doubles for a swami guru at a high society party for Marisa Tomei. He uses the advice that Sharonna gave him and his popularity grows.

The Guru pokes harmless fun at stereotypes, with a mix of Indian and American culture. Jimi Mistry is so charming and sexy, he never gets overshadowed. It really looked like the cast was having a lot of fun making this flick :)
