In his first time directing, Casey La Scala (executive produer for Donnie Darko) brings to light the somewhat unnoticed world of professional skateboarding.
Recent high school graduates and skateboarding enthusiasts Eric Rivers (Mike Vogel), Matt Jensen (Vince Vieluf) and Dustin Knight (Adam Brody) decide they want to be professional skateboarders, and the only way to do that is to be sponsored by an already well-known skateboarder. They decide to follow pro-skateboarder Jimmy Wilson (Jason London) all around the country in hopes to be noticed and sponsored.
They enlist the help of "Fast Times at Ridgmont High" reject Sweet Lou (Joey Kearn) and his van to drive all over the country. While on the road they endure various hardships (the van gets stolen, they can't get a break with any of the professional skaters, they go broke, etc.). Also while on the road they discover who they really are, and deal with their own personal struggles for acceptance, love, family, and truly understanding who you really are.
A good movie to watch. Funny to see when the main characters are skateboarding that they only show the feet or them from a far ways away...indicating that the main actors have no clue how to really skate. Still though, a good coming-of-age movie.
Dustin: So to recap, um, we smell like turds, we have no car, no Jimmy Wilson, and I'm broke. I guess you could call me stupid.
Matt: Hey Stupid.
Dustin: What?
