The Corporation (2003)

The Godzilla that will consume us
One has to be very careful in supporting this film. It will likely
brand you as a socialist, or an anarchist, or, if you are a
schoolteacher in Florida and support it in your classroom, a criminal.
The Florida Lesgislature, in it's infinite wisdom last year mandated
that teachers teach "the nature and importance of free enterprise to
the United States economy." Some may balk at investing two and a half
hours to a documentary, but I assure you that the information contained
in this film will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Discovering that smarmy corporate lawyers used "activist judges" to
give corporations "personhood" out of a law that was designed to
protect former slaves was an eye opener. Imagine that, judicial
activism that benefits the "free enterprise" system.
Discovering that US corporations built the NAZI regime and continued to
support it and the Holocaust throughout the war is disgusting.
Finding out that US Corporations actually creating an organization with
the express purpose of overthrowing FDR and the government is amazing,
but true.
See world bodies and governments conspire to give rights to drinking
water - even to rainwater - to corporations makes me want to puke.
Seeing the US military used to support corporate raiding and injustice
makes me ashamed that I wore a uniform.
Yes, this film will show the exploitation of workers throughout the
world by corporations; it will show the rape of the planet by these
same entities; and it will show how corporations control the media to
keep their dirty secrets.
At the end, I was cheering those who protested at the World Trade
Summits as heroes, and you will too.
Now, don't get me wrong. There was one real corporate hero in the film.
Just one.
Finally, I wonder, if General Washington and General Eisenhower can be
elected President, why can General Motors and General Electric. The
Burger Court declared that they are "persons" so they must be
electable.
Invest you time in this film and you will have an MBA in corporate
America and the real danger they pose to our future.
